Umahi Gives Update On Northwest Roads Projects

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has highlighted progress in the Federal Government’s road construction programme. He reports of 348 kilometres of completed inherited and newly initiated road projects, 4,084 kilometres of ongoing projects and 1,811 kilometres of partially completed projects. These interventions reflect the government’s efforts to expand and improve the national road network through the rehabilitation, reconstruction and construction of critical highways.

At the flag-off of the APC Presidential Campaign in Kaduna State, the Minister highlighted key road projects in the North West, including sections of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway, comprising the 118-kilometre Lot 1, the 30-kilometre section in Kano State and the 81-kilometre Tungan Maje–Jere alignment. Other projects include the Kano Northern Bypass, the dualisation of the Kano–Maiduguri Road, Section I (Kano–Shuwarin), and the Yakasai–Badume–Damargu–Marken Jalli Road. These projects are expected to improve regional connectivity, facilitate the movement of people and goods, link farming communities to markets and create employment opportunities.

The Minister also emphasised that successful project delivery requires sustained funding, effective supervision, timely execution, adherence to engineering standards and adequate maintenance. He noted that completing ongoing projects and maintaining existing roads are essential to improving transportation safety, strengthening regional trade and agricultural supply chains, and delivering lasting economic benefits to communities and road users across the North West.
