Tinubu Secures APC Ticket with 11m Votes, Pledges to Consolidate Reforms for 2027

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, polling 10,999,162 votes in the party’s nationwide primaries held on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
A statement by Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy revealed that the President received the APC Certificate of Return and the party’s flag from National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda on Sunday at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Chairman of the APC Presidential Election Committee, Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim, announced the results before governors, NASS members, ministers, and NWC officials.
Accepting the nomination, Tinubu pledged to deepen his administration’s economic reforms if re-elected. “With another four years of disciplined focus and national cooperation, we will firmly place Nigeria on an irreversible path of economic expansion, industrialisation, energy security, infrastructure development, food sufficiency, and democratic consolidation,” he said.
Anyim said 12,643,316 members were registered, 11,069,746 accredited, and 11,015,665 voted across 36 states, the FCT, 774 LGAs and 8,809 wards. The process, he added, followed INEC guidelines and the APC constitution, with agents of both aspirants allowed to challenge results. Sole challenger Stanley Osifo polled 16,503 votes.
The President urged APC members to “take pride in and showcase” the party’s achievements since 2015, citing new tax laws that boosted federation revenue and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, with over N282 billion disbursed to 1.5 million students. He thanked governors, the NWC, and the primaries committee for the mandate.
With the APC ticket now secured, Tinubu is expected to begin consultations on his running mate and campaign structure ahead of INEC’s 2027 timetable. The opposition coalition, led by ADC’s David Mark faction, is also positioning for the poll, setting the stage for a competitive contest next year.
