Tinubu Congratulates India’s Modi on 25 Years as Head of Government

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 25th anniversary as Head of Government in Gujarat and the Republic of India, describing it as a historic milestone.
In a Statehouse statement issued on Tuesday, October 7, 2026, President Tinubu, on behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, extended warm and fraternal felicitations to Prime Minister Modi, who first assumed office as Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001.
The President noted that Modi’s public service has continued without interruption, serving over twelve years in Gujarat before becoming Prime Minister of India in 2014. He said a quarter-century of unbroken leadership is rare in any democracy and a powerful testament to the enduring confidence the Indian people have placed in him.
President Tinubu praised Modi’s vision and commitment to development, citing his transformation of Gujarat and India’s emergence as one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing economies through advances in infrastructure, digital public goods, financial inclusion and innovation.
He said Nigeria deeply values its strategic partnership with India, recalling Modi’s historic State Visit to Abuja in November 2024 when Nigeria honoured him with the title of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger. That visit, he said, gave fresh impetus to cooperation in trade, energy, defence, health, education and technology.
The President reaffirmed that as fellow democracies and leading voices of the Global South, both nations share commitment to a fairer and more inclusive international order, expressing confidence that bilateral ties will grow stronger under Modi’s continued leadership while wishing him good health and success.
