POWER MINISTER DENIES PROMISING GRID FIX IN THREE MONTHS

Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe on Thursday dismissed media reports claiming he promised to fix Nigeria’s national grid within three months, calling the reports inaccurate and misleading.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Adeola Adelabu, Tegbe said no such commitment was made during his Senate screening on 6 May 2026. The minister did not provide further details of what he told lawmakers regarding timelines for grid stability.

The clarification follows online reports that circulated Wednesday quoting Tegbe as pledging a three-month turnaround for the grid, which has suffered multiple collapses this year. The Ministry of Power said it remains focused on ongoing reforms but has not set a public deadline for full resolution.

Nigeria’s national grid has recorded several system disturbances in 2025 and 2026, triggering nationwide blackouts and renewed calls for urgent upgrades to transmission infrastructure.
