Police Arrest Popular Content Creator “Odogwu” Over Alleged Rape, Suicide of 20-Year-Old in Asaba, Delta

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a popular content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, 40, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” over the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman who later died by suicide.
According to a starement signed by the State’s Command Image anaker Bright Edafe, the arrest followed a petition alleging that on June 1, 2026, the deceased travelled to Asaba at the invitation of the suspect, who had offered to train her in content creation through his social media platform. Upon her arrival, the suspect allegedly took her to a hotel where he raped her and subjected her to physical violence.
The victim reportedly returned home distressed and told her parents about the incident. She also made a video recording recounting her experience and emotional distress before allegedly ingesting a toxic substance. She died despite efforts to save her life.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, directed the Area Command, Effurun, to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation. Acting on the directive, operatives arrested Ogbonna and said he made useful statements during preliminary investigation. The Command said further investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
CP Oyeniyi assured the family of the deceased and the public that no aspect of the allegations would be overlooked. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to a professional investigation and said appropriate legal action would be taken in accordance with the law.
