Nigerian Army, Police, Vigilantes Rescue 3 Kidnap Victims, Kill 2 Terrorists in Edo

The Nigerian Army, in a joint operation with the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilante groups, has rescued three kidnapped victims and neutralized two terrorists in Esan Local Government Area of Edo State.

The operation was launched following a kidnap incident reported at Ambrose Alli University on July 13, 2026. Acting on credible intelligence, troops in close synergy with police personnel and local vigilantes tracked the fleeing criminals to their hideout in Esan LGA and moved in to dislodge them.

According to the Army, the joint security team made contact with the terrorists and engaged them in a fierce firefight. Two terrorists were neutralized during the encounter, while sustained offensive pressure forced the remaining gang members to abandon their captives and flee. As a result, three abducted victims were rescued unhurt.

Items recovered from the scene include three AK-47 rifles, 39 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, three mobile phones and two power banks. The Army said the recovered items are currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing members of the criminal syndicate.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with sister security agencies and stakeholders to decisively deal with criminal elements and ensure the protection of lives and property across the country.

The Army also urged members of the public to support security operations by providing credible information about criminal hideouts and collaborators to aid ongoing efforts to rid communities of kidnappers and terrorists.
