NFF SECRETARIAT IN TRANSITION AS SPORTS COMMISSION APPOINTS IKPEME INTERIM SG

The National Sports Commission has appointed Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, former Deputy General Secretary, to oversee the Nigeria Football Federation Secretariat as interim General Secretary. The appointment follows Thursday’s resignations of NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi, and members of the Executive Committee.

Also appointed in an interim capacity is Dr Ademola Olajire, former Director of Media and Communications, who will now serve as Deputy General Secretary. The Commission said the changes are part of immediate measures to ensure stability at the Federation during the transition period.

In a statement from the NFF Communications Department, the Commission also announced the suspension of all processes for the NFF Elective Congress earlier scheduled for 27 September. It said a fresh electoral process will begin after comprehensive reforms are carried out in consultation with FIFA and CAF.

As part of the interim arrangements, Chairmen, appointed Directors and CEOs of the NPFL, NNL, NWFL and Nationwide League One have been directed to hand over league administration to their Chief Operating Officers who are NFF staff. Where no COO exists within NFF staff, the Acting General Secretary is to deploy one from the Federation.

The Commission said the measures are to guarantee continuity in the administration of Nigerian football pending further engagements with FIFA, CAF, Government and other stakeholders on a reform roadmap. It added that further directives and changes will be communicated in due course.
