The Lagos Waste Management Authority, in a joint enforcement operation with LAGESC (KAI) and Mobile Police, has arrested a resident of No. 13, Lanre Adefiranye Street, Baale Bus Stop, Meiran, for allegedly dumping refuse into a drainage channel during rainfall on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
The arrest followed a tip-off received by the LAWMA Enforcement Team alleging that the suspect was disposing waste into the drainage. The team, supported by KAI operatives and police officers, apprehended the resident at the scene. The suspect has since been taken to the KAI headquarters for further prosecution.
LAWMA Managing Director/CEO, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, confirmed the development on his X account, warning residents against acts that endanger public infrastructure. The operation is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to curb indiscriminate waste disposal, especially during the rainy season.
Gbadegesin strongly advised residents to desist from dumping waste into drainage channels, noting that such actions contribute directly to blocked drains and flooding across the state. He said enforcement would be sustained to ensure compliance with environmental laws.
The LAWMA boss reiterated the agency’s commitment to #KeepLagosClean, urging Lagosians to bag their waste properly and patronize accredited waste managers. He added that anyone caught engaging in illegal dumping will face the full wrath of the law.
