Lagos Government seals off two hotels in Victoria Island over environmental violations

The Lagos State Government through the state’s Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), has sealed off two Hotels in Victoria Island area of the city

Lagos Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab in a a post on X disclosed that the two buildings were shut down due to environmental violations

“The Lagos state Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) on Wednesday, 8th April 2026, sealed off Wealth Hotel and Kings Court, located at Nos. 3 and 5 Keystone Bank Crescent, Victoria Island, over environmental infractions resulting in nuisance and pollution.

The enforcement action against Kings Court followed the unlawful discharge of wash-off sand from borehole drilling activities by an unlicensed driller into the drainage channel causing blockages and subsequent overflow of wastewater onto the adjoining road.

The Wealth Hotel was also sealed after the agency received several confirmed public complaints on the deliberate discharge of faecal matter into the drainage system, constituting a serious environmental violation.

The lagos state government reiterates the need for residents and property operators to adhere strictly to proper wastewater management practice. Any individual or organisation found contravening environmental regulations will be subjected to appropriate sanctions and possible prosecution in accordance with the law.” The statement reads
