Hamzat Emerges Lagos APC Governorship Candidate for 2027

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 general elections. Announcing the results at the party secretariat in Ikeja, Returning Officer retired General Jonathan Temlong said Hamzat polled 657,917 votes to defeat rival Olanrewaju Jim-Kamal, who secured one vote.
Temlong said 657,974 voters were accredited for the exercise, which was conducted peacefully across the state’s 245 wards in all 20 local government areas. He described the process as a “family affair,” noting it was transparent and carried out in line with party guidelines. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were also present to monitor the election.
Giving a breakdown, Temlong said Hamzat recorded strong support across the state, with 74,501 votes in Alimosho, 55,148 in Ikorodu, 51,600 in Kosofe, and 49,079 in Lagos Mainland among others. Declaring the result, he announced Hamzat as the APC candidate for the 2027 Lagos governorship election.
Lagos APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi commended the electoral committees and party members for conducting a credible and orderly primary. He said the exercise reflected the unity and strength of the APC in Lagos ahead of 2027, and added that Saturday’s presidential primary would also be held through direct primaries across all 245 wards.
In his acceptance speech, Hamzat thanked President Bola Tinubu, APC leaders, and members for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to sustain the developmental strides of the APC administration and promised inclusive governance if elected. The contest saw four aspirants initially pick forms, but Abdul-Azeez Adediran and Samuel Ajose later withdrew after Hamzat received endorsements from Tinubu and the Governance Advisory Council.
