The Defence Headquarters Joint Task Force North West has launched _Operation Clean Sweep III_ in Matazu Local Government Area and adjoining communities, targeting bandits behind the abduction and death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar.
The operation commenced on *Sunday, June 14, 2026*, with fighting patrols, intelligence-driven raids, and cordon-and-search missions in identified criminal hideouts. DHQ said the offensive aims to eliminate those responsible for the retired general’s kidnap and subsequent death in captivity, and to dismantle their networks in the North West.
Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for JTF North West under _Operation Fansan Yamma_, said troops have recorded “significant gains” around *Dikkawa Hills, Adua, Nasarawa and Karaduwa*. Several terrorist camps, logistics hubs and support facilities were destroyed during clearance exercises over the weekend.
DHQ said operations are ongoing and troops remain in pursuit of fleeing bandits. Residents were urged to provide timely information to security agencies as the military intensifies efforts to restore safety in Katsina and neighbouring states.
