Crisi looms in Ogun APC as 𝗔𝘀 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝘆𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻

The race for Ogun State governorship in 2027 has taken an unexpected turn as Abayomi Hunye has launched a parallel campaign while challenging the emergence of Senator Solomon Adeola as the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate.

The APC has insisted that Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, remains its duly recognized flag bearer for the election. Despite the party’s position, Hunye is pressing ahead with a legal challenge to contest the outcome of the party’s governorship primary.

The unfolding dispute has drawn comparisons to the 2019 Kano governorship crisis. In that case, a Federal High Court nullified the PDP primary that produced Abba Kabir Yusuf just days before the election. The Court of Appeal later intervened, allowing Yusuf to remain on the ballot.

While the circumstances are not identical, political observers say the situation serves as a warning. Disputed primaries have the potential to escalate into full electoral crises if not resolved early, and could undermine party cohesion ahead of the polls.

For the opposition, the development presents an opportunity. With APC defending both its hold on Ogun and a ticket that is still facing legal challenge, rival parties could exploit the uncertainty. If the dispute persists, the legal battle over the APC ticket may become a defining issue of the 2027 governorship contest in the state.
