The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke yesterday received the newly posted Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim D. Zungura, who paid a courtesy visit to the Government House as he assumes duty in the state. The visit comes at a time when the state is focused on restoring post-election peace and reconciliation.
The Governor welcomed CP Zungura and commended his commitment to impartial policing, peace and stability across Osun. He noted that the state government places a high premium on security and order, especially as efforts continue to heal political divisions and rebuild public confidence in governance and law enforcement.
Assuring the new police boss of full government support, Adeleke said his administration is ready to back the command “without any strings attached.” According to him, what the people of Osun seek is professional, fair and people-oriented policing that is free from partisanship and bias.
To consolidate peace and strengthen security coordination, the Governor made five specific requests to the new CP. He urged the command to rebuild public trust through professional conduct, strengthen cooperation with the state government based on mutual respect and the rule of law, and reorganise internal operations, particularly units perceived as compromised or partisan.
The Governor further requested full participation of the police in State Security Council meetings to enhance collaboration on security matters across the state. He also called for the immediate release of those arrested and held as political detainees, and for an end to further politically motivated arrests.
Concluding, Governor Adeleke said “Osun deserves peace. Osun deserves justice. Osun deserves a police command that enjoys the confidence of all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.” He extended an olive branch to all stakeholders, urging them to work together to heal the state, rebuild trust, and give peace a permanent home in Osun.
