APC FAULTS MAKINDE OVER ‘INCITING’ REMARKS

The Ruling Party.the All Progressives Congress has criticised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for remarks he made on Saturday, 25 April 2026, in Ibadan, describing them as reckless and a threat to national security.

Addressing a summit of opposition parties, Makinde referenced the “Operation Wetie” crisis while alleging that Nigeria was sliding into a one-party state. The APC, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, condemned the comment as an incitement to violence.

“The All Progressives Congress categorically condemns Governor Makinde’s incitement as reckless and a clear threat to peace and national security,” Morka said. “It is particularly disturbing for a sitting governor, who is the Chief Security Officer of his state, to invoke one of the darkest episodes of political violence in Nigeria’s history to threaten violence against the people and government of Nigeria. By his incitement, Makinde has shown himself to be unworthy of the office he occupies.”

Morka added that Makinde’s rhetoric risks fueling anarchy and urged security agencies to “take this development seriously and act to safeguard lives, property, and defend Nigeria’s democratic order.” He noted that constitutional immunity does not shield threats to national security.

The APC dismissed opposition claims of one-party domination, blaming their crisis on “self-inflicted injuries” from poor leadership, internal contradictions, and disregard for due process. The party cited the PDP’s zoning dispute, Labour Party’s “nomadic” presidential politics, and the ADC coalition as examples.

“Our democracy is founded on competing visions of governance. Their failure to articulate any alternative to the APC-led administration’s policies is on them,” the statement said. “We will not yield to blackmail to abdicate our duty to plan, organize and mobilize for the 2027 general elections.”

The party reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law and the Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
