Troops repel ISWAP attack in Konduga, Borno, with heavy gunfire reported in the area.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai are currently responding to an attack by suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

Security sources said the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the area at about 11:15pm, prompting a swift response from troops deployed in the axis.

Residents reported hearing heavy sounds of gunfire as troops engaged the insurgents in a fierce exchange.

“There have been heavy sounds of gunshots as the soldiers engage the terrorists. We are hearing sounds around Dalori,” a source said.

Konduga, located about 35 kilometres from Maiduguri, has remained a strategic frontline area in the counter-insurgency campaign against Boko Haram and ISWAP due to its proximity to the Sambisa forest.

As of the time of filing this report, the exchange of gunfire was still ongoing.
