Maiduguri Blast : Situation under control as explosion at Giwa Barracks stops

Security sources have confirmed that the explosion from the Giwa Military Barracks in Maiduguri has stopped and the situation brought under control as of 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
The incident, which caused panic among residents on Wednesday night, was traced to a heat induced reaction in the barracks’ armoury, leading to a series of explosions and fire.
The sources said that emergency response teams, including military firefighters and other agencies, worked through the night to contain the situation.
“The situation has been brought under control. The explosions have stopped since about 1:30 a.m., and all necessary safety measures have been put in place,” the source said.
“There was no external attack. It was an accidental ignition caused by extreme heat within a part of the armoury,” the source added.
It was gathered that no casualties were reported as at the time of filling this report and normalcy has since returned to the area.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and disregard rumours of an attack, as security across Maiduguri remains stable.
