Police rescue 21 abducted passengers in Kogi

The Kogi Police Command says it has freed 21 passengers abducted by suspected gunmen along the Obajana–Kabba Road in the state.

On Sept. 10, at approximately 3:30 p.m., it was confirmed that armed hoodlums had forcibly stopped a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number LES 996 XA, traveling from Ilesha, Osun State to Abuja, and abducted all 21 occupants in the Akpamaru area of Obajana–Kabba Road.

“On receipt of the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Obajana promptly mobilised a joint team of police operatives, military personnel, vigilantes and hunters to the scene.

“The joint forces tracked the hoodlums into the bush, which forced them to abandon the victims at Irepeni area.

“All 21 abducted passengers were rescued unhurt,” the sources said.

He added that efforts were ongoing to identify and dismantle the hideouts of the hoodlums for possible arrest and prosecution.
