House of Representatives Provides Clarification on Death Report Near National Assembly Complex

The National Assembly’s lower chamber, the House of Representatives, has clarified reports surrounding the discovery of an unidentified individual’s body near the National Assembly Complex on Sunday.

In a statement released on Monday in Abuja, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., who serves as Spokesman of the House, made the revelation.
.He noted that the clarification was based on the Nigeria Police Force’s official report, as the lead investigative agency in this matter. According to him, the House leadership considered it a duty to keep the public properly informed, thereby avoiding speculation and misinformation.
According to Rotimi, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), National Assembly Division, reported that the deceased, presumed to be a labourer at a construction site within the complex, was found at about 9 a.m. inside a red Peugeot 406 car with registration number BWR-577 BF
.
He said the vehicle was parked outside the Annex Building Gate, close to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
“The body was discovered in a sleeping position on the back seat and was already in an advanced state of decomposition. The police have evacuated the remains to the mortuary and efforts are underway to establish the identity of the deceased and notify the family,” he said.
Rotimi said the National Assembly was in close contact with relevant security and emergency agencies to ensure a thorough investigation.
He commended the police for their swift response and said the House would continue to monitor developments closely.
“On behalf of the House of Representatives, we extend sympathies to the family and associates of the deceased, once identified, and assure members of the public that updates will be communicated transparently as investigations progress,” he added.
