Nasarawa Mining Petition: NSCDC Orders Withdrawal, Seeks Joint Probe With Police

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has ordered the immediate withdrawal of a petition filed by the Commander of the Mining Marshal, Assistant Corps Commandant Attah John Onoja, to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, alleging obstruction and attack on mining marshals by police officers in Nasarawa State.
In a statement by the Corps’ spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi describes the petition as unauthorized and dissociates the corps from the petition.
The statement hints that the Commandant General expresses regret over any embarrassment the petition may have caused, noting that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) was unaware of the incident.
Dr. Audi reaffirms NSCDC’s commitment to inter-agency collaboration, especially with the Nigeria Police Force, in advancing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
It added that while defense Corps already considering appropriate measures to take regarding the officer, the Commandant General reiterated his determination to continue collaborating effectively and synergising with the Nigeria Police in a resolute commitment to stamping out crime and criminality to make Nigeria safer and more secure.
NSCDC therefore called for a joint Police investigation into the incident.
