NAFDAC Impounds ₦1.2 Billion Worth of Fake Malaria Drugs in Lagos Operation

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has confiscated 277 cartons of counterfeit and unregistered Malamal Forte malaria drugs, valued at over ₦1.2 billion, from a warehouse in the Ilasa-Oshodi area of Lagos State.
According to NAFDAC, the counterfeit medications, concealed in cartons labelled as Diclofenac Potassium 50mg, were illicitly imported from Shanxi Tianyuan Pharmaceuticals Group in China, and falsely declared as spare parts within the shipping container.
NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to eradicating counterfeit and substandard medications from Nigeria, bolstered by the full support of the Presidency and the Federal Ministry of Health. This seizure is part of NAFDAC’s ongoing nationwide operation aimed at safeguarding public health and ensuring the availability of solely safe, quality medications for Nigerians.
The raid is coming days after the agency shut down counterfeit rice operation at a shopping plaza opposite the World Trade Centre, Abuja, where re-bagged popular brands, packaging materials, and sealing machines worth over ₦60 million were seized.
