China set to share development gains with Nigeria – Chinese Consul-General in Nigeria

The Consular General of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria, Ms. Yan Yuqing, has stated that China is prepared to share the benefits of its development, enhance cooperation in areas such as the digital economy, green energy, and infrastructure, and support the construction of the African Continental Free Trade Zone.
Ms Yan made the declaration during the opening ceremony of the 2025 China Commodities Expo Nigeria (CCE). According to her, the annual event, which takes place simultaneously in Lagos, Nigeria, Guangzhou, and Shanghai, China, has achieved significant growth in attendance and transaction volume.
The three-day exhibition, organised by China’s Ministry of Commerce, is showcasing products across sectors such as automobiles, renewable energy, electronics, textiles, agriculture, and industrial machinery. It is expected to further boost a trade relationship already valued at over $20 billion in the first nine months of 2025, according to China Customs data
She said ” This exhibition brings together high-quality China Commodities and technologies. It is not only microcosm of China-Nigeria economic and trade cooperation but an important platform for both countries to share development opportunities ”

China always adhere to the principle of extensive consultation and joint contributions for shared benefits.We sre willing to koin hands with Nigeria to deepen practical cooperation and inject new momentum into the stability of the global industrial chain”
Wang Deyang, Deputy Director of the Trade Development Bureau under China’s Ministry of Commerce, confirmed that trade between both countries grew by 32.6% year-on-year, reaching $20 billion between January and September 2025. He said the Expo is expected to unlock new commercial partnerships and support industrial growth in Nigeria

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, represented by Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, Commissioner for Commerce, observed that the event is in line with the state’s vision to position Lagos as West Africa’s foremost trade hub. He exhorted Nigerian businesses to harness the platform to negotiate technology transfer deals, bolster local manufacturing, and diversify export earnings.
“China’s investments exceeding $1.5 billion in Lagos and across Nigeria have delivered not only infrastructure but also technology transfer and skills development, fueling our shared drive for prosperity.
We encourage Nigerian businesses to seize this moment by negotiating smart partnerships, demanding meaningful technology transfer, and aligning with global best practices to accelerate local manufacturing and economic diversification”
Over 250 Chinese companies and more than 5,000 participants are attending this year’s edition, which organisers say will foster stronger supply-chain integration between both countries
