Nigerians incurred expenditures of about N1.3 trillion on petrol purchases in June 2025 says NMDPRA.

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority NMDPRA has revealed that Nigerians spent about N1.3 trillion on purchasing petrol for their vehicles and electricity generators in June 2025.

According to the report from the NMDPRA, the petrol consumption reached 1.44 billion liters during this period.

From the total of 1.44 billion liters transported to various states, Lagos used 205.7 million liters, which amounted to N185.1 billion in value. Ogun was next, consuming 88.7 million liters at a cost of N79.8 billion, while the Federal Capital Territory received 77.5 million liters, with a value of N69.8 billion. Oyo, received 72.8 million liters valued at N65.5 billion.

At the lower end of the scale, Jigawa State received the smallest allocation, amounting to 9.4 million liters, valued at N8.5 billion. Following Jigawa, Ebonyi was allocated 10.5 million liters, equating to N9.5 billion. Yobe received 11.7 million liters, totaling N10.5 billion, and Bayelsa was allocated 11.9 million liters, amounting to N10.7 billion.

In terms of regional consumption, the South-West stood out as the leading consumer, using 452.9 million liters valued at N407.7 billion. Excluding Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo, the distribution was as follows: Osun received 35.5 million liters (worth N31.9 billion), Ondo obtained 35.1 million liters (valued at N31.5 billion), and Ekiti used 15.3 million liters (amounting to N13.7 billion).

In the North-Central zone, which placed second, a total of 247.4 million liters valued at N222.4 billion was recorded. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) topped the list with 77.5 million liters worth N69.8 billion. It was followed by Niger, which had 40.7 million liters valued at N36.6 billion; Kwara, with 34.8 million liters valued at N31.3 billion; Benue, with 25.7 million liters valued at N23.1 billion; Nasarawa, with 25.1 million liters valued at N22.6 billion; Kogi, with 24.1 million liters valued at N21.7 billion; and Plateau, with 19.4 million liters valued at N17.5 billion.

The North-West region consumed 230 million liters, totaling a value of N207.0 billion. In this zone, Kano spent the most, reaching N61.4 billion, followed by Kaduna at N38.8 billion and Sokoto at N33.3 billion. Kebbi’s spent N27.3 billion, while Katsina spent N22.3 billion. Meanwhile, Zamfara’s spending amounted to N15.3 billion, and Jigawa had the lowest expenditure at N8.5 billion.

In the South-South region, total expenditures reached N202.9 billion for 224.9 million liters. Delta led with N61.6 billion, followed by Rivers with N40.1 billion, Edo with N38.8 billion, Akwa Ibom with N30.4 billion, and Cross River with N20.7 billion. Bayelsa, on the other hand, was among the lowest, spending N10.7 billion.

The North-East accounted for 152.8 million litres valued at N137.5bn. Adamawa topped the zone with N51.2bn, Bauchi followed with N27.9bn, Gombe and Borno recorded N17.3bn and N17.0bn, respectively, Taraba N13.6bn, and Yobe N10.5bn.

The South-East recorded the lowest spending nationwide with 132.7 million litres, valued at N119.6bn. Anambra topped the zone with 40.5 million litres (N36.5bn), followed by Imo, 30.6 million litres (N27.6bn); Enugu, 27.4 million litres (N24.7bn); Abia, 23.7 million litres (N21.3bn); and Ebonyi, 10.5 million litres (N9.5bn).
