The Cross River State Police Command has released the photograph of an unidentified woman found dead in a hotel in Calabar South, appealing to members of the public to help establish her identity and trace her relatives.
The woman was discovered dead at a hotel along Clifford Lane, Calabar South, in an incident the police are now investigating as a suspected homicide. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the command said the development was an update to its earlier report on the incident dated September 8, 2026.
According to the police, preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased had lodged at the hotel alongside a male guest whose whereabouts remain unknown. Efforts are ongoing to locate the man and establish the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
“As part of ongoing efforts to establish the identity of the deceased, the Command is releasing her photograph and appeals to anyone who recognises her or may have information concerning her identity, family or associates to contact the Police with credible information,” the statement said.
The command also disclosed that the receptionist who was on duty when the incident occurred remains in police custody and is assisting investigators. He is being questioned over the admission of the guests and the events preceding the discovery of the body.
The police, however, stressed that the receptionist’s detention does not amount to a determination of guilt. “His custody should not be construed as a determination of guilt, as any further action will be based on available evidence and in accordance with the law,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has directed that the investigation be conducted professionally and objectively. The police said the probe is aimed at identifying the deceased, determining the cause of death, locating the male guest, and establishing the roles, if any, of other persons connected to the incident.
The command urged anyone who recognises the woman from the released photograph or has information that could assist in locating the male guest to contact the Police Control Room on 0706 797 7330 or 0905 827 3057, or visit the nearest police station. It added that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
