Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have intercepted a music speaker rigged with three packs of Colorado at a motor park in Maza Maza, Lagos, while on its way to Abidjan, Cรดte dโIvoire and ultimately Liberia.
According to a statement from the image maker of the Agency Femi Babafemi, a sting operation at a nearby eatery led to the arrest of tour agent Ifeanyi Obed Augustine, 41, and the consignmentโs owner Obasi Ugochuckwu, 46. In another operation at Iddo park on Friday, September 11, suspect Ifeanyi Nwokolo Henry was nabbed attempting to dispatch 2.1kg of Colorado to Kano.
Similar seizures were recorded across several states. In Delta, two arrests at Ughelli and Asaba yielded ampoules of pentazocine injection, codeine syrup, tramadol, diazepam, flunitrazepam and MDMA concealed in music speakers, with suspects Emeka Oji and Chukwuebuka Anedi arrested. In Kano, a raid at Sabon Gari led to the arrest of 20-year-old Saidu Adamu with 785,000 capsules of Pregabalin weighing 669.425kg. Along the ZariaโKanoโHadejia road, 1,700 tablets of diazepam hidden in loaves of bread were recovered from Habibu Sabitu, 28, while in Jos, Plateau, Chinedu Uzor, 51, was arrested with 157,100 capsules of tramadol.
The Agency also intensified its clampdown on cannabis cultivation. In Edo State, NDLEA destroyed 4,832.56kg of skunk on farms at Usen, Igwe-Oke and Ogboha Forests, arresting suspect Sunday Segun, 39, on September 11. In Ondo, 186kg of skunk concealed in the boot of a Toyota Avalon was recovered in Akure from Paul Ogbuwala, 58, who was planning to move it to Jos. Further arrests were made in Kaduna where Hannah Michael was caught with 369.6kg of cannabis, and in Bayelsa where four suspects including 70-year-old Godwoman Gboriye were arrested with 110 bags of cannabis weighing 876kg.
Alongside enforcement, NDLEA sustained its War Against Drug Abuse, WADA, campaign with sensitization in schools, worship centres and communities nationwide. These included lectures at Mezube Islamiyya Academy, Kano, an advocacy visit to Cross River State College of Health Technology, and a visit to the Emir of Keffi. Commending officers of DOGI, MMIA, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Kaduna, Plateau, Bayelsa and Kano Commands, NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), charged them to maintain a balanced approach and shut every drug pipeline at airports, seaports, borders and in the hinterland.
