The Zamfara State Government and FGโs Presidential CNG Initiative are set to build gas stations and conversion hubs in the state to make transport more affordable for residents.
This was made inown when the Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, met with the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles, Pi-CNG & EV, Ismaeel Ahmed, to discuss plans for expanding CNG infrastructure in the state.
During the meeting, EC Ahmed requested the state government to allocate land for CNG refuelling stations and vehicle-conversion facilities. He said the facilities would be developed in partnership with private-sector investors as part of efforts to widen access to cleaner and cheaper fuel across Zamfara.
The discussion is in line with the federal CNG and electric-vehicle programme, an initiative of the Federal Government aimed at providing commercial transporters with a more affordable alternative to petrol and diesel. The programme seeks to reduce transport costs and cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians.
Pi-CNG & EV has been engaging state governments across the country to secure land, establish conversion centers, and attract private investment. The initiative is targeting the development of a national network of CNG stations and workshops to support the rollout of gas-powered vehicles.
Officials say the partnership with Zamfara is expected to create jobs, lower the cost of transportation, and boost the stateโs energy transition plan. Both the state government and Pi-CNG & EV are expected to finalize modalities for land allocation and private sector participation in the coming weeks.
