By Zagazola Makama

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have eliminated several terrorists and intercepted a suspected ammunition courier during separate operations in Zamfara and Kaduna States.

The operations were conducted on Sept. 2, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist networks and deny them access to arms and ammunition across the Joint Operations Area.

In Zamfara, troops of Sector 2 acted on credible intelligence about the movement of terrorists from the Fakai General Area towards Kwanar Jolof and Tashar Dole in Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas.

The troops laid an ambush at Kwanar Jolof and engaged the terrorists, neutralising several of them, while others fled in disarray.

During exploitation of the area, the troops recovered an RPG launcher, one RPG bomb, an AK-47 rifle, six AK-47 magazines, 106 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle, among other items.

Similarly, in Kaduna State, troops of Sector 1 intercepted a vehicle at a snap checkpoint along the Saulawa-Zaria Road.

During the search, one of the passengers reportedly resisted the inspection of his bag and attempted to escape after being compelled to open it.

The troops pursued and neutralised the suspect.

A subsequent search of the bag uncovered 793 rounds of ammunition concealed inside a quantity of gari.

The vehicle and its driver have been taken into military custody for further investigation.

The latest operations underscore the sustained offensive by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt the movement of arms and ammunition and restrict the freedom of action of criminal elements across the North-West.

The troops have remained resolute in their operations aimed at restoring peace and security to affected communities across the Joint Operations Area.
