Tension has gripped the Kwara G15 political group following reports that its alleged clandestine alliance with PDP stakeholders has been brought to the attention of President Bola Tinubu during a recent meeting in Abuja.
According to sources within the group, several followers and stakeholders are now in distress over the revelation. The concern stems from fears that their activities at the grassroots could inadvertently cost the President votes in both the presidential and National Assembly elections, which will hold on the same day.
The G15, which publicly claims to support President Tinubu’s reelection bid, has been accused of campaigning for PDP candidates in recent weeks. The inconsistency was highlighted by APC Governors as part of a wider trend within the “rainbow coalition” associated with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Similar patterns were cited in Gombe, Cross River and Zamfara states.
Party strategists warn that the situation poses a direct threat to the President’s vote tally. They argue that the average grassroots voter has limited electoral awareness and may become confused, end up voting for opposition candidates, or cast void votes. With Kwara regarded as a key APC stronghold in the North Central, any leakage of votes could significantly weaken Tinubu’s chances against a resurgent Atiku Abubakar of the ADC.
“The President requires maximum votes from all APC-led states to solidify his chances,” a source close to the meeting said. “With the G15/PDP alliance linked to Dr. Bukola Saraki, there is genuine fear that Kwara’s contribution will be affected greatly.”
Stakeholders in the state have, however, maintained that Kwara electorates largely want Tinubu reelected and will not support anything that reduces his votes. The development is expected to trigger tighter party monitoring in Kwara as the APC moves to contain anti-party activities ahead of 2027.
