Operatives of the Mowe Division, Ogun State Police Command, have dismantled an illegal ‘baby factory’ in Abaren Village, Mowe, rescuing two heavily pregnant women and four children while arresting six suspects. The intelligence-led raid was carried out on August 24, 2026 at about 8:00 a.m. at a hideout on Toluwalase Street, Gbarinmole, where preliminary investigations revealed that human trafficking and illegal adoption had been ongoing.
Deputy PPRO Ogun Police command ,Oluborode Oyeyemi disclosed in a statement released and signed that those arrested include Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya. Police said the facility had been operating as a syndicate specializing in the exploitation of pregnant women and the illegal sale of children.
During the operation, operatives safely rescued Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who was seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20, who was eight months pregnant. Four young children, two males and two females, were also recovered from the scene. Authorities said the victims were receiving medical attention while investigations continued.
In a follow-up operation, police traced the syndicate to a hospital within the Mowe axis where another victim, Blessing Bright Effiong, 26, had given birth to a baby boy on August 20, 2026. While the mother was found receiving treatment, the newborn could not be accounted for. The attending nurse was arrested to assist in locating the missing infant.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation. Police said the aim is to establish the full scope of the syndicate’s activities, locate the missing newborn, and ensure the prosecution of all culpable persons. The Command assured that updates would be provided as investigations progress.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, commended the Mowe Division for their swift response. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eradicating human trafficking, child trading, and other violent crimes, and urged residents to remain vigilant and support police efforts with credible information.
