The Department of State Services late Wednesday arrested one Moferewa Maiye in Wuse II, Abuja for impersonating a DSS officer.
Maiye, who claims to be from Agbajojun Village, Mopamuro LGA, Kogi State, was trailed to his hideout around NITEL Junction, Adetokunbo Ademola Way.
At the time of arrest, he was wearing a DSS tactical uniform and was found with a fake pistol.
A security source said the DSS acted on intelligence that Maiye had been using the uniform and fake weapon to intimidate motorists and commuters, and extort money from them.
During interrogation, Maiye claimed the kit belonged to his late brother, Monday Maiye, who was a DSS personnel.
He is currently in DSS custody as investigations continue to determine how he got the uniform and how long he has been carrying out the impersonation and extortion.
The Service says the arrest highlights concerns over fake security operatives targeting members of the public.
