President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, on her historic election as the first elected and second female President of the Nigerian Bar Association, describing her emergence as a watershed for the legal profession and a triumph for merit and gender inclusion.
In a statement issued on July 21, 2026 by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya’s distinguished career marked by integrity, professionalism, and commitment to justice earned her the confidence of lawyers across the country. He noted that her victory reflects the growing recognition of women’s invaluable contributions to nation-building and the administration of justice.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that her leadership would strengthen the legal profession by upholding the rule of law and promoting reforms that enhance access to justice for all Nigerians. He urged her to collaborate with all stakeholders to advance judicial reforms, protect the sanctity of the Constitution, and sustain the Bar’s role as a vital pillar of democracy.
The President also called on the new NBA President to reach out to other contestants in the election in the interest of unity. “I urge you to reach out to the other contestants, unify the bar and make efforts to correct issues that arose during your election,” he said. He added that her emergence has once again shown that Nigerian women can attain the highest heights in both private and public service.
President Tinubu wished Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya a successful tenure and assured her of his administration’s continued commitment to working with the NBA to deepen democratic governance, promote justice, and build a more prosperous and united Nigeria.
