NDLEA arrests okada rider who excrete 100 wraps of hard drug, seizes N10.3bn worth of drugs at Lagos port

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested a 48-year-old commercial motorcycle rider, Onyechere Daniel Chinadu, who excreted 100 wraps of methamphetamine, while also seizing Canadian Loud worth over N10.3 billion at the Apapa seaport in Lagos.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, July 12, 2026, by the Director of Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, Chinadu was intercepted at the Terminal 2 arrival hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, on June 28, 2026. He arrived from Madagascar via Addis Ababa aboard an Ethiopian Airways flight. A search of his checked-in backpack revealed 87 wraps of methamphetamine concealed in clothes.

Babafemi said the suspect told investigators he had ingested some pellets in Uganda before travelling. After he was denied entry in Madagascar, his Uganda-based sponsor, Ozor Igo, rerouted him to Lagos where he was arrested. “The suspect was unable to state the exact number of pellets he had ingested in Uganda and as a result, he was placed under excretion observation for three days,” Babafemi stated. Between his arrest and July 1, he excreted 13 additional pellets, bringing the total to 100 wraps weighing 1.715kg. Chinadu claimed he had worked as an Okada rider in Oke-Afo, Lagos, for 15 years before being recruited into trafficking.

In a separate operation, NDLEA officers at the Apapa seaport, during a joint examination with Customs and other security agencies on Friday, July 10, 2026, discovered 8,287 nylon bags of Canadian Loud weighing 4,143.5kg. The Agency estimated the street value of the consignment at over N10.3 billion. Babafemi said the seizure followed weeks of targeted tracking by the Maritime Intelligence Unit in collaboration with the Apapa Strategic Command since the shipment left Montreal, Canada.

The Agency also thwarted an attempt to export 2.5kg of skunk concealed in a gas compressor to Cyprus through a courier company in Lagos. The interception was carried out by operatives of the Directorate of Operation and General Investigation, DOGI.

NDLEA Commands across the country also sustained their War Against Drug Abuse, WADA, sensitization in the past week. Activities included lectures at Nnodo Secondary School, Abakaliki; Government Girls Secondary School, Sabon Gida, Kano; Royal Jesuit College, Agbado Ekiti; and Community Secondary School, Idofa, Ogun. The leadership of the Zone 14 Command also paid an advocacy visit to Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, at Government House, Port Harcourt.

While commending officers of various Commands, NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), said the drug supply reduction efforts balanced with WADA activities were commendable. He charged them and their colleagues nationwide “not to rest on their past laurels” in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
