Military Rescue 23 Kidnap Victims in Kogi

Nigerian Army troops have rescued 23 kidnapped passengers following a violent attack on a major road in Kogi State.
A swift response by the Nigerian Army led to the rescue of 23 passengers who were abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Ayegunle–Bunu Road in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area. According to military analyst Deji Adesogan, the incident occurred at about 3:30 a.m. on Monday when armed attackers blocked the highway and fired at passing vehicles. During the assault, several travellers were taken away by the gunmen.
Following a distress call, troops from the 12 Brigade, Kabba, quickly deployed to the affected area. By the time the soldiers reached the scene, however, the attackers had already escaped. Security personnel immediately launched a search operation to assess the situation and locate the suspects.
During the operation, troops recovered two bodies and rescued five injured victims. Soldiers also found several abandoned vehicles, including two Toyota buses and a HOWO truck, which had been left behind at the scene.
The Kogi kidnapping rescue effort intensified as troops pursued the suspects along routes believed to have been used for their escape. Under pressure from the advancing military personnel, the kidnappers reportedly abandoned 23 captives. The Kogi kidnapping rescue operation ended successfully as all the victims were recovered safely and evacuated by the military.
Meanwhile, the injured victims received treatment at St. Joseph Hospital, Kabba. Security agencies have continued clearance and surveillance activities across the area. Military sources said these measures aim to prevent further attacks, improve road safety, and strengthen security for commuters. The Kogi kidnapping rescue remains part of broader efforts to tackle criminal activities in the region
