NDLEA Arrests 63-Year-Old ‘Chinese Grandma’ with 31kg of Canadian Loud at Lagos Airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested a 63-year-old Chinese-born woman, Ting Hung Kiong, for attempting to smuggle 31.0 kilograms of “Canadian Loud”, a potent synthetic strain of cannabis, into Nigeria through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The suspect, who naturalised in Malaysia, was intercepted on Sunday, 17th May 2026, at the Terminal 2 Arrival Hall of MMIA shortly after disembarking from an Emirates Airline flight from Thailand via Dubai, UAE. NDLEA officials said she was found with two large travel boxes containing the illicit consignment. Preliminary investigation revealed she travelled from Malaysia to Thailand, spent two weeks there, and was handed the drugs at a Thai airport for delivery in Nigeria.
During questioning, the suspect, who said she works as a caregiver in Malaysia, claimed her daughter sponsored the trip. She admitted to collecting the consignment in Thailand for onward delivery in Lagos. NDLEA described the seizure as one of the largest cannabis interceptions at the Lagos airport this year.
Reacting to the arrest, NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the operatives for the bust and urged them to sustain the agency’s “drug supply reduction efforts balanced with WADA sensitisation activities”. He charged officers nationwide to “continue to raise the operational bar” against drug trafficking syndicates. The suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court.
