TINUBU NAMES MAJ. GEN. FAMADEWA RTD SPECIAL ADVISER ON HOMELAND SECURITY

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Famadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation announced on Sunday.

The appointment was contained in a circular signed by SGF Sen. George Akume and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana. The statement said the move underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security coordination, enhancing intelligence-driven operations, and deepening inter-agency collaboration to address emerging threats nationwide.

Maj. Gen. Famadewa retired has over three decades of military and intelligence service in national security strategy, intelligence fusion, counter-terrorism operations, and international security diplomacy. As Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser from 2015 to 2021, he spearheaded the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre at ONSA, creating an integrated multi-agency platform that brought together the DIA, NIA, DSS, Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces to improve threat assessment and response coordination.

Following retirement, Famadewa served as Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja, providing thought leadership on policing, civil-security cooperation, and national security reform. His monograph “Policing and National Security in Nigeria” offered frameworks for strengthening civil-security collaboration, the statement noted.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the appointment will enhance efforts toward a safer Nigeria through improved coordination of homeland security initiatives, intelligence integration, and proactive risk management. He urged Famadewa to deploy his experience and strategic insight in advancing national security objectives under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
