Shekarau emerges as APC consensus candidate for Kano central senatorial seat

Former Governor of Kano State , Ibrahim Shekarau, has emerged as the consensus candidate for the Kano central senatorial seat under the platform of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This development comes after Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, successfully mediated a resolution to the dispute over the district senatorial ticket of the Party
In a statement on Sunday, Sunusi Dawakin, the governor’s spokesperson, said Yusuf convened a high-level reconciliation meeting in Abuja, where all aspirants and key stakeholders agreed to shelve their differences in the interest of unity and the political future of Kano.
Following the governor’s intervention, eight aspirants voluntarily stepped down and endorsed Shekarau as the APC’s flagbearer for the district.
Yusuf commended the aspirants for prioritising the collective interest of the state above personal ambition, describing their decision as a “bold demonstration of maturity, sacrifice, and commitment to democratic values”.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to dialogue, inclusion, and consensus-building as essential tools for political stability and development.
Usman Bala, one of the stakeholders, said all eight aspirants unanimously supported the governor’s peace initiative.
He described it as a “wise and timely intervention”.
On his part, Shekarau commended Yusuf for facilitating lasting peace among the contenders and expressed gratitude to the other aspirants for rallying behind him and the broader APC agenda in Kano
