The Delta State Police Command has assured the family, friends and public that “there will be justice” over the extra-judicial killing of Mene Ogidi, 28, in Effurun on 26 April 2026.

Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, disclosed that Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi gave the assurance after the incident, which occurred when operatives from Area Command Effurun responded to intelligence that Ogidi was caught trying to waybill a parcel containing a Beretta pistol with four rounds of ammunition.

Edafe said ASP Nuhu Usman, who led the team, discharged his firearm in violation of Force Order 237 and police SOP, leading to the suspect’s death.

The CP ordered Usman’s immediate arrest. He has been queried and transferred to Force Headquarters, Abuja, to face the Force Disciplinary Committee for sanction and prosecution.

CP Oyeniyi extended condolences to Ogidi’s family and reaffirmed the Command’s zero tolerance for lawlessness, recklessness and extra-judicial conduct. He appealed for calm, saying all steps are being taken to bring the officer to justice.
