Military officers in the Republic of Benin have announced a takeover of government, declaring the removal of President Patrice Talon in an early-morning broadcast on Thursday.

The statement, delivered by officers led by Lieutenant Pascal Tigri, confirmed that the armed forces had “assumed full control of the state” and dissolved existing institutions. Details on Talon’s whereabouts remain unclear as of press time.
