Tragedy Unfolds as Hunter Accidentally Kills Woman Mistaken for a Monkey in Cross River State

A hunter in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State has been apprehended for allegedly shooting and killing a woman he mistakenly identified as a monkey while hunting in a forest.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred on Monday at Basam Osokom community, when a hunter, identified as Otu Goodness Kanang, reportedly fired at what he perceived to be a monkey perched on a tree.
According to sources, Kanang stated that after firing the shot, he heard a human cry and subsequently discovered he had inadvertently struck a woman named Victoria, whose full identity had yet to be determined.
Following an investigation, detectives visited the scene and, with the help of community youths, relocated the body to the residence of a local chief in Bansam.
The suspect has been apprehended and is being held in custody as the inquiry continues. According to police, order has been restored to the area and the Command remains calm.
