2026 WORLD CUP:TINUBU PRAISES SUPER EAGLES FOR 4-0 VICTORY OVER BENIN REPUBLIC, CHARGES TEAM TO KEEP THE HOPES ALIVE

President Bola Tinubu has conveyed his congratulations to the Super Eagles on their decisive 4-0 triumph over the Cheetahs of the Benin Republic and commends the team for maintaining the nation’s optimism as they strive for qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the President commends the Super Eagles for showcasing exceptional hunger, passion, and determination during their match in Uyo, highlighting that their impressive performance has revitalized Nigerians’ football pride.

‘While the job is not yet complete, I join millions of Nigerian football fans in wishing our team every success in the playoffs.

The mood across the country reflects a shared belief that Nigeria deserves a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Canada, Mexico, and the United States will host.

It adds, As your President, I assure you and the coaching crew of the Federal Government’s support as you strive to secure your place at the tournament. Nigerians everywhere believe in you, and I do too.

Super Eagles of Nigeria will now take on Les Panthères of Gabon in the semi-finals of the African section of the 2026 FIFA World Cup play-offs, following the conclusion of the qualifying group matches on Tuesday, The play-offs, comprising the four best runners-up from the nine African qualifying groups, are scheduled to be held in Morocco from November 13 to 16
