Favour Ofili completes nationality switch to Turkey

Favour Ofili has formally announced her decision to switch allegiance from Nigeria to Turkey after competing for several years as a member of Team Nigeria.

Ofili revealed on Instagram that she chose to switch nationality due to the poor treatment she suffered from Nigerian sports administrators at the last two Olympics held in Paris and Tokyo.

“Wrapping up my 2025 season has been a whirlwind of new experiences and big decisions. Racing back-to-back across amazing cities and learning from the best has been incredible.
As some of you have heard, I’m also starting a new chapter representing Turkey.

I am proud to have represented Nigeria for many years in a highly successful way — winning six gold medals, two silver medals, two bronze medals at championships, and being a 200m Olympic finalist. But after the biggest disappointments with the AFN and NOC during two Olympic Games (Tokyo & Paris), I’ve made this decision. While it means sitting out this year’s championship in Tokyo, this change comes from the heart, not financial motives.

I’m grateful to have found a new home in Turkey and excited for what lies ahead. Thank you to my coach, agent, sponsor @adidas, and loved ones for standing by me.”

A follower inquired on Ofili’s Instagram page whether the officials who poorly treated her were penalized, and Ofili responded that they are still in active service.

“They are all still in office. They said I was paid a compensation fee. This is to clarify I got nothing from anyone at all — not even an apology.”She confirms
