Police apprehend individual for allegedly killing girlfriend with machete in Rivers

The Rivers State police have apprehended a 23-year-old man for allegedly killing his 44-year-old girlfriend with a machete. The police spokesperson in the state, Grace Iringe-Koko, revealed this information in a statement posted on Facebook on Tuesday.Premium Times report
The suspect, identified as “Kingsley Chinamezu, aka Power Sharp,” from Ogbo-Hill, Abia State, allegedly macheted his girlfriend to death on 30 July in the Umuebule Community, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.
“After committing the heinous crime, the suspect fled to Egbeta village in Edo State and began issuing further threats to the victim’s family members, boasting that he could still harm them without consequences.
“Upon a formal complaint by the victim’s family and proactive efforts by the operatives of the command, the commissioner of police assigned the case to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit,” Mrs Iringe-Koko said.
The suspect, the police said, was traced, located, and arrested on August 15, 2025, in his hideout at Egbeta village, Edo State.
Ms Iringe-Keke, a superintendent of police, said the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime, providing details of the events leading to the murder.
“Evidence is being collected, and the suspect is undergoing further investigation and profiling for potential involvement in other related crimes. The suspect will face prosecution upon completion of the investigation,” she added.
This is the second time in about 24 hours that the police have reported a case of a man allegedly killing his girlfriend.
It waa earlier reported how a man in the state, identified as “Doctor,” allegedly stabbed his girlfriend, “Ima,” to death over infidelity.
“The man (suspect) has been arrested, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Port Harcourt,” Ms Iringe-Koko told our reporter on Tuesday
