Man taken into custody by police for alleged killing of 11-year-old son in Kogi

The Police Command in Kogi has taken into custody a man, Jato Alhaji Jaye, for allegedly killing his 11-year-old son in Agbaja area of Oworo land, Lokoja Local Government Area.

Police records indicate that on August 19, Zuberu Adamu from Fulani bush camp, Agbaja village, reported to the police that his sister, Adama Adamu, claimed she had not seen her son, Buhari Jato, who had gone grazing with his father, Jato Alhaji Jaye, since August 17
Following the incident, a search party was quickly formed, which led to the discovery of the boy’s lifeless body in the bush. The father was reportedly found at the scene attempting to bury the body to conceal his act.
Police officers from Division ‘B’, Lokoja, arrived at the scene, took photographs, apprehended the suspect, and released the decomposing body to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
The suspect allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation, stating that the deceased had ‘offended him’ while they were rearing animals together, and admitted using a Fulani stick to flog the boy as punishment, leading to his death.
The sources said the case would soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lokoja, for further discreet investigation.
