WAFCON: Falcons Defeat Tunisia 3-0 to begin Mission X

Nigeria’s Super Falcons got off to a flying start at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), cruising to a 3-0 win over Tunisia in their Group B opener on Sunday in Morocco.

Playing at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, the nine-time champions delivered a dominant performance from the first whistle. Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, converting a precise cross from the right to put Nigeria ahead.

After the break, Rinsola Babajide doubled the lead with a thunderous effort from outside the box, before substitute Chiwendu Ihezuo sealed the win in the 78th minute with a composed finish.

The win marks Nigeria’s first-ever WAFCON victory over Tunisia, having drawn with them in their only previous meeting in 2008.

With this result, the Super Falcons have set the tone for their quest to reclaim the continental crown and extend their record to 10 WAFCON titles. They now turn their focus to Thursday’s clash against Botswana, with confidence running high and a statement already made to the rest of the continent.
