176 Women , Children Still Held After Kwara Massacre, Families Plead for Govt Rescue

It has been exactly one month since terrorists stormed the villages of Woro and Nuku in Kaiama LGA, Kwara State, on February 3, 2026, killing at least 162 residents and abducting scores of women and children. Today, 176 captives, including pregnant women and nursing mothers, remain in terrorist hands.
Armed jihadists on motorbikes attacked the communities after residents refused to renounce government authority and accept their version of Sharia law. The assault lasted hours, with security forces arriving only after the attackers had left with their hostages.
A video released by the terrorists showed the abductees being paraded in forest conditions near Kainji National Park. The group demanded a N2 billion ransom for their release. Families have been waiting in anguish, with no rescue operation successfully freeing any of the captives.
Government Response:
The Federal Government deployed troops and launched Operation Savannah Shield. Vice President Kashim Shettima visited Kwara, and state authorities set up an intervention committee. However, one month later, no captives have been freed.
Community leaders and civil society groups continue to call for urgent action as survivors and relatives gather to share their grief and press for the return of their loved ones.
